Samsung has revealed its new V-NAND based 1 TB drives for smartphones. For some reason, it uses eUFS 2.1 instead of the vastly superior UFS 3.0 standard, although the solution will come "soon". Despite not being the fastest on the market, Samsung claims speeds of 1000 MB/S, or double that of a traditional SSD drive. Or 10x the speed of a microSD card.

"The 1TB eUFS is expected to play a critical role in bringing a more notebook-like user experience to the next generation of mobile devices. What's more, Samsung is committed to assuring the most reliable supply chain and adequate production quantities to support the timely launches of upcoming flagship smartphones in accelerating growth of the global mobile market," Samsung's Cheol Choi explained.

The drive is made by stacking 16 V-NAND flash memory modules and coupling that with Samsung's own controller.

Samsung is, as a result, set to expand their NAND flash factory in Korea.
