It has been revealed that the 2021 Pokémon World Championships - that includes tournaments for Pokémon The Card Game Video Game and Pokkén Tournament DX - will be postponed until 2022. The event is now set to take place in London, United Kingdom, but the global tournament will not be happening this year due to the pandemic.
The announcement post detailing all of this states, "After careful review and pursuant to guidance set forth by local, regional, and national health authorities, as well as the World Health Organisation, Public Health England, and the Centre's for Disease Control and Prevention, we have made the difficult decision to move out the next Pokémon World Championships to 2022. This event is planned to take place in London, UK."
It has also been noted that the Play! Pokémon series is still under suspension due to the pandemic, so all sanctioned events in the scene, including League play are still suspended until further notice.
On a brighter note, those who qualified for 2021's event will have their qualification recognised at the now 2022 event. Likewise, online play for the Pokémon Players Cup and the Play! Pokémon Team Challenge will still be supported for the time being.
