Back in 2010, Activision and Dutch developer Virtual Fairground were developing a browser-based online roleplaying game based on DJ hero and Guitar Hero that was called Hero World. The game was similar to other Facebook- and browser-based MMO:s as Virtual Playground's own Club Galactik and it was planned that players would own and manage clubs, and hire DJ Hero and Guitar Hero players for gigs who in turn would in-game currency for their experiences. In early 2011 the game was cancelled and Virtual Fairground was only partially paid for their work by Activision leaving them in debt and having to close shop only a few months later as a result of failed attempts to repurpose their works and a lawsuit with the owners of the Galactik Football brand. Video game archeologists Unseen 64 tells us all about the plans in this video that's recommended viewing if you're the least bit interested in the Hero games and their "crash" back in 2010/2011.
