Siliconera reports on a Nikkei article with Nintendo's Satoru Iwata where he details some of the impressive stats on the latest installment of the popular Animal Crossing series - Animal Crossing: New Leaf on Nintendo 3DS.

The game has sold 2.3 million copies in Japan alone, and according to the Club Nintendo stats 56 percent of the players are female - the corresponding number across all of 3DS is 31 percent.

"People often debate whether Smartphones will eliminate the need of consoles for gaming. When you look at these numbers, women of ages 19 to 24 are some of the core users of Smartphone games. They say casual female gamers don't need a console, but after seeing these figures, we'd really like to reconsider that and the true value of console gaming."

REVIEW. Written by Gillen McAllister

"Think of it as less a game, more a life choice. It's a twee game, but don't mistake it for a childish one. It's an addictive, warm-hearted title that deserves to be on your 3DS."
