Arma III's Contact expansion is here to introduce us to aliens
This features a new campaign that isn't focused on shooting, as well as other content for Arma III fans.
Arma III has just received a rather unique expansion, as the Contact spin-off is all about aliens and life beyond our planet, delivering a single-player campaign in which you play as a NATO drone operator investigating a newly-discovered subsurface object and an alien vessel.
In this campaign you need to investigate the aliens, studying them using a sampling laser and biopsy probe. You can even use a Spectrum Device to take control of the electromagnetic spectrum, which can be used to gather intel, transmit data, or for jamming. There are also infantry combat sections, although Bohemia Interactive emphasises that the campaign features mostly "non-shooting gameplay".
On top of the campaign this expansion also introduces a new terrain covering the Nadbór region inside the fictional Polish-speaking country of Livonia. This sandbox contains railroads, towns, forests, an old munitions factory, World War II bunkers, and more.
There are extra armed forces with this DLC too, like the Livonian Defense Force and Russian Spetsnaz, along with five weapons, two vehicles, and free bonus content like decorative props and terrain objects.
"Looking back at Contact's concept phase, I'm very proud of how we managed to convert the many ideas into the original experience we're releasing today. It tackles the 'first contact' premise in a way not yet seen in other games, while also showcasing the diversity of the Arma 3 platform," said Arma 3 Contact Project Lead, Joris-Jan van 't Land. "Beyond the campaign experience, we're also glad to be expanding the traditional Arma 3 sandbox with loads of cool content. I'm confident our community will be able to put this expansion to good use, and we hope everyone will have a lot of fun playing. The truth is out there!"
There's even a Contact Collector's Edition on the Bohemia store, which includes the Deluxe Edition of the base game, the expansion, and collector's items like a topographic map.
