Variety reports that EA and Universal have teamed up for a movie adaptation of the action game Army of Two that was released on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 earlier this year. Scott Z. Burns co-writer of the script for "The Bourne Ultimatum" has been commissioned to write the script. Production on the product is reportedly being "fasttracked" to start in 2009, most likely to coincide with a videogame sequel. This is the first time EA takes on production duties for a movie project, but it would seem turning their gaming properties into movies is now a big focus for EA after movies based on The Sims and Mass Effect precede the Army of Two news. The headline in the Variety article mentions Peter Berg (Hancock) as a possible director, but the actual piece doesn't go into any further detail.

Let's see if Hollywood can turn the story in Army of Two into something memorable. I wouldn't hold my breath...
