Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse is a brand new game from Charles Cecil's Revolution Software, and it's just been announced via a Kickstarter campaign that will no doubt have fans salivating at the prospect of another adventure with George Stobbart in the Broken Sword universe.

Some details are provided regarding the storyline for The Serpent's Curse:

When a mysterious painting is stolen during an armed raid on a Paris gallery, George and Nico are thrown by chance into the investigation together. From Paris to London and beyond, the trail becomes a race against time as dark forces from Europe's turbulent past are woken from their slumber. Broken Sword characters old and new are encountered - but who can George and Nico trust? The journey they are on reveals a conspiracy as old as the written word, whose ancient heresies will cause innocent blood to spill once more...

Many of the original Revolution team are on board, and there'll be familiar voices, with Rolf Saxon once again providing the voice of George. The game will once again embrace 2D, this time presented in full HD.

The studio revealed that the reason behind their push towards crowdfunding, was so that they could break away from the traditional publisher/developer relationship. By securing independent funding they hope to be able to finance their own projects in the future:

Revolution adventures have had considerable success - but the traditional publishing model has prevented us receiving the required royalties to fund future games. With limited financial reserves we have been unable to fund our own titles and so we have not benefited from their success. Now you can help us to change this. For the first time in our history, we will be funding an original adventure game.

If you want to help Revolution achieve their aim of becoming self sufficient, then there are a variety of different tiers of support you can sign up for. Head over to Kickstarter for all the details, as well as a charming trailer featuring the cast of the game, and Charles Cecil himself.
