Activision Blizzard's earning report has just been released, and as is usually the case with these things, an earnings call was held, which confirmed the news that layoffs of around 800 staff would be happening. That's not all though, as Call of Duty fans got plenty of details regarding this year's game, courtesy of Activision President Rob Kostich.

As reported by Charlie INTEL this next Call of Duty will indeed have a campaign alongside a "huge multiplayer world" and "some fun coop gameplay". This new Call of Duty is apparently making waves internally, with those with knowledge about the game being excited about it.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said: "I think that Rob is underselling what the internal enthusiasm is. I haven't seen this much enthusiasm that I can remember almost ever. So, we're excited about the fall release of Call of Duty content."

However, the game - which is described as being "rooted in the franchise's history" - is predicted to do worse than Black Ops 4 despite the internal hype.

"We will continue to optimize in game content this year to drive on going engagement and player investment," CFO Dennis Durkin said. "And in Q4, we'll have another major launch for the franchise that'll appeal broadly to both existing and new fans in what I can only describe right now as a great step forward in the franchise that is also rooted in some of the franchise's important history. We have high expectations for the game but for modelling purposes we are conservatively planning on up front Q4 unit sales to be lower than Black Ops 4."

Why they would predict the game as less profitable than Black Ops 4 is a mystery, although this is likely affected by the fact that Black Ops is one of the franchise's most popular sub-series. Regardless of the planned monetary returns, a tweet from Charlie INTEL states that Activision Blizzard's CEO said has stated that he's not seen this much excitement for a Call of Duty in the last decade.

There has been a lot of speculation about what this new entry could be, especially given the success of Black Ops 4 and the introduction of the Blackout battle royale mode, and of course with Infinity Ward attached people have been pointing to Modern Warfare 4.

Are you excited for this mysterious Call of Duty? What do you want to see from it?
