Another Call of Duty game has been announced, and while it's not the rumoured Modern Warfare 4 yet, it's a mobile mash-up which looks to combine a bunch of weapons, maps, and modes from the history of the franchise.

Call of Duty: Mobile, as it's known, will feature fan-favourite maps like Nuketown and Standoff from the Black Ops series, as well as Crash and Crossfire from Modern Warfare, to name a few. Combine this with weaponry and gadgets from across the series and we're looking at an interesting entry in the franchise.

Chris Plumber, VP of mobile at Activision, said: "Together with the amazing team at Tencent, we're bringing together a collection of the most beloved maps, competitive modes, familiar characters and signature weapons from across this storied franchise into one epic experience for the first time on mobile."

This mobile release follows a similar style and structure to the previously released Call of Duty Online, which was also a sub-franchise mash-up. This title, however, was only released in China for PC and was seen as a way for the series to enter the Chinese games market. As it was free-to-play with micro-transactions, a game in this vein seemed ideal for mobile devices, and Call of Duty: Mobile looks to fill that void.

The latest title in the main series, Black Ops 4, has garnered its own share of criticism with regards to monetisation methods. In the latest major update, Grand Heist, loot boxes were introduced to the game on top of a battle pass system, individual micro-transactions, and the Season Pass, so it'll be interesting to see what the mobile approach is.

Fans can sign up and pre-register for news and development updates on the game, and to gain public beta access for Call of Duty: Mobile in the summer, all of which can be found on the game's official site. You can even watch a new trailer down below.

Will you be checking out Call of Duty: Mobile, or waiting for the much-rumoured MW4?
