After many months of declining software sales compared to 2008 the games industry in the United States bounced with an increase of five per cent over last September in the latest NPD numbers. Most analysts were however expecting more as a few big titles such as the latest Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Need for Speed titles had been moved from the regular spots in the crowded Q4 schedule to September releases.

The release of Halo 3: ODST was of course also a major factor. Add to that the new Playstation 3 model and price reductions on both Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 and five per cent isn't a lot to brag about. Sony are probably encouraged by the leap in sales experienced by Playstation thanks to the new model and they are no doubt hoping that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves can keep them ahead of Wii and Xbox 360 next month as well.
