According to Variety, Capcom's zombie franchise is heading to the screen in the form of a Dead Rising movie.

According to the site, Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be executive producer, while Tim Carter will write and produce along with Tomas Harlan. There's no director attached as yet.

The movie is being made by Contradiction Films, who most recently delivered Mortal Kombat: Legacy, while distributors Content Media also had a hand in Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.

"Dead Rising has a built-in fan base and rich characters and plotlines that are ideal for digital storytelling and on target for Legendary's brand," said Legendary Digital boss Tom Lesinski.

"Crackle and Content are adept at distributing cutting-edge digital content and we look forward to delivering a highly engaging and cool series for a global audience."

As for storyline, it sounds like fairly standard Dead Rising fare. Set during a large-scale outbreak, four lead characters must avoid the undead while getting the root of the epidemic that may or may not involve governmental conspiracy.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"For those seeking a return to the comedy thrills of past iterations, there's enough of that original spirit here for that to still be possible, despite the grittier tone."
