Tomorrow - January 24 - we'll be seeing a rather special livestream for Blizzard's StarCraft II. It's not about esports or announcements, but instead this is all about DeepMind's artificial intelligence system as they update us on their research into the game, which you can watch either on YouTube or Twitch.
This will take place between 18:00 and 20:00 GMT (19:00 and 21:00 CET) and we'll see the results of Blizzard and DeepMind's partnership. Gaming allows DeepMind to develop smarter and more flexible AI algorithms, and RTS games are perfect for this because they pose problems like planning, spatial reasoning, and dealing with uncertainty.
What does this mean for their research? Well, we'll have to wait for tomorrow to find out, but it's certainly interesting considering the potential this holds for AI studies. This isn't the first time that a company has tried to apply AI to games either, as MoreMMR tried to use the same technology to predict Dota 2 matches back at The International tournament last year.
Where can we see AI go in the realms of gaming?
