Trion Worlds is perhaps best known for being the developer and publisher of Rift and Trove, but perhaps their most ambitious project to date was Defiance, the sci-fi universe spanning both an MMO shooter and a TV-series (SyFy Channel). This summer, the American publisher will bring back Defiance. Launched in 2013 alongside the TV series (which ran for three seasons), the game put you in a futuristic open world where you had to skate a ravaged land to recover artifacts and alien technologies.

If the first game has been somehow forgotten, this refurbished version, built from the ground up, will try to change things. Defiance 2050 is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One next summer, with improved graphics resolution and frame rate, to adapt to the new hardware standards. The gameplay has been reviewed and redesigned.

If the game interests you, know that there is a closed beta scheduled (the date should be communicated later). You can already register by visiting the official website here.

Whether or not there are plans to resurrect the TV series remains to be seen, but Trion Worlds holds all the rights so in this day and age of streaming services anything is possible.

REVIEW. Written by Kieran Harris

"The online shooter is back, only this time there's no TV show backing it up."
