After learning that Crackdown 3's incredible levels of destruction is limited to its multiplayer, a couple of developers from around the industry took to Twitter to offer up their reactions to the impressive tech, as well as the potential of cloud computing and Microsoft's marketing strategy surrounding the announcement.
Bioware's tech and level designer Jos Hendricks had the following to say on Twitter:
"Seeing Crackdown 3's destruction makes me excited to see that game, but one question came to mind immediately surrounding that narrative."
He followed up with:
"What happens to games making use of any kind of cloud computing when that stuff goes offline, either temporary, or end of service?"
This was quickly answered by 343 Industries' multiplayer designer Patrick Wren, to which Hendricks replied:
"Is it, though? I somehow got the impression that the destructible city bit stood apart from multiplayer."
Furthermore, Naughty Dog animator Jonathan Cooper said this about the reveal:
"Crackdown 3 spectacularly showing how Microsoft should have pitched the ‘always on' functionality so people could see the benefits."
It seems that the game development community are looking closely at Crackdown 3's ability to handle detailed destruction via its cloud computing technology, and it'll be interesting to see whether this has inspired any new game announcements in the near future.
