After seven years, the Diablo series is getting its fourth main instalment and Blizzard Entertainment is pulling inspiration from the very root of all three games up to this point. The announcement was made at Blizzcon 2019, which is being held right now, at the time of writing and there's plenty to talk about regarding the announcement, the cinematic trailer that accompanied it and the gameplay trailer that followed.

In the trailer, four men find their way into a ritual chamber after being trapped by a large group of menacing creatures. Within the ritual chamber, a voice can be heard, asking for the blood of the willing and for a ritual inscription to be read. The voice doesn't ask nicely and soon it is done, summoning the "creator of Sanctuary" - Lilith. This means that the artbook leak we reported on recently turned out to be not a rumour but fact.

In the gameplay trailer, however, we got to lay our eyes upon the in-game world and it's safe to say that Diablo hasn't ever looked better. Multi-layered, varied environments like winter landscapes with scaleable walls and jumpable drops and demon dense, dark cellars. We're told the interpretation of hell will this time be of medieval nature. Blizzard also spoke about the world having sensical enemies like drowned undead emerging from the coastlines.

Three classes were shown as well, the barbarian, the sorceress and the druid, with the former two being pretty straight-forward while the druid turned into a menacing bear in the blink of an eye. We also find out that the game will have hub cities where you can interact with NPCs and other players and, if you're willing, engage in some PvP if it's a PvP zone.

It's safe to say, from watching the trailer, that Diablo IV is bringing the Diablo darkness of old, a darker story and true horror elements to your PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it releases, although a release date is yet to be announced.
