Dragon Quest Builders 2 has only just been released as of last month (we rather enjoyed it, as you can tell from our review), and series director Kazuya Niinou has revealed on Twitter that he has decided to leave Square Enix.

"With development on Builders 2 completed, I have left Square Enix. To Naoki Yoshida, Noriyoshi Fujimoto, Takuma Shiraishi, all of my colleagues, and everyone who enjoyed the games I made, thank you so much! I truly appreciate your support," he said, as reported in English by Gematsu.

"I have been at Square Enix for about seven years now (my longest yet!). I felt a little burned out with Builders 2 and wanted to try out a development cycle different from Square Enix, so I set out for a new development environment," he continued, adding that he already has plans for the future.

Niinou won't leave Dragon Quest Builders 2 entirely though, as he'll still watch over the game as an external worker.

Where do you want to see him go?
