Sega's last (?) video game console Dreamcast was launched in European ten years ago today. It was first planned to be released closer to the epic American release date (9/9/99), but stumbled a little out of the blocks. It went on to sell approximately ten million units until Sega ran out of money and pulled the plug early in 2001 while simultaneously announcing plans to support other platforms.

In its short life span the Dreamcast managed to produce quite a few classic titles, while pioneering online gaming on consoles with its built in modem.

Some of the most memorable games includes Phantasy Star Online, Shenmue, Soul Calibur, Jet Set Radio, Rez, Sonic Adventure, Skies of Arcadia, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Fighter 3tb, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Grandia II, Chu Chu Rocket! and Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Just to name a few...

Today we remember Dreamcast fondly as perhaps the last hardcore console before the true main stream breakthrough of video games.
