After the somewhat ambigious approach to the World Cup with FIFA 14 and the standalone 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil (PS3/Xbox 360), it seems EA Sports are opting for a generous approach to this year's big sporting event in Russia.
The free 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia update will let you play through the tournament as one of the 32 qualified teams, but you'll also be able to play a custom version of the tournament as one of the licensed teams that did not qualify, like say the USA, Chile, or Italy. There will also be FIFA World Cup Ultimate team that features a new chemistry system as well as World Cup Legends. All 12 stadiums of the World Cup have been authentically recreated using the Frostbite Engine.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia update will launch for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One on May 29, a couple of weeks ahead of the World Cup kicking off.
