Elden Ring may have been leaked ahead of schedule, but at Xbox's E3 press conference we got the first trailer for the collaboration between FromSoftware and Game of Thrones author George RR Martin, giving us a glimpse into the mysterious world being offered to us.

We now have more details on the elusive project too, as this will be a close collaboration between Martin and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki, as revealed in an interview the latter conducted with IGN. Miyazaki also explains that the story and world of this new project will be close to Dark Souls, which isn't too surprising considering the trailer hits some of the same notes we've seen in that series.

In terms of exploration, this will be an open world that encourages more exploration than we've seen in the past, which Miyazaki claims will allow for further development of the story. The main character of this game can be customised, and Miyazaki adds that the setting and the NPCs in Elden Ring are more appealing than in his other games, with the NPCs having more depth after the experience with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and VR game Déraciné. It'll come as no surprise to hear that Martin's influence on creating the mythology helped with this.

In the same interview we also hear discover this was a game inspired by Western fantasy stories (perhaps Game of Thrones?), although not Lord of the Rings. That doesn't mean it'll lose the FromSoftware flavour when it comes to gameplay though, as it'll still be souls-like in essence.

Of course this is all very vague still, but it does shape our expectations somewhat when it comes to the obscure title, which is still without a release date.
