Epic version of Axiom Verge crashed due to missing steam file

It turns out that developer Tom Happ had deleted all Steam files but accidentally deleted one for a steam sound effect in-game.

Tom Happ's Axiom Verge is free on the Epic Games Store this week, which is very good news, but it turns out that a simple missing file actually caused the game to crash, all because it was missing something called Steam.xnb, as discovered and shared on ResetEra.

Now this doesn't have anything to do with Valve's platform, but Happ himself actually revealed what the misunderstanding was on Twitter:

"For anyone missing Steam.xnb from the Epic store, please go to AV in your library, click the gear icon, Verify, then Update. I was thinking it being Epic and all, I shouldn't include valve's dlls and such, so I excluded all files with "Steam" in the name... oops."

All fixed then, and it turns out that this file is actually to do with a sound effect for actual steam in the game, rather than being related to the Valve system.

Will you be testing Axiom Verge out now?

REVIEW. Written by Kim Visnes

"Though the game looks and feels old fashioned, there is enough here to keep you from drowning in nostalgia."
