After the Oculus Rift amazed everybody at E3 with the EVE VR demo, it's been announced that the experience is going to become a full game.

CCP is making Eve: Valkyrie, a multiplayer space dogfighter. Players will be able to enjoy the rich setting of the EVE universe while destroying enemies from the perspective of their starship cockpit.

In an official statement CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson wrote: "From the moment this year's Fanfest attendees first got their hands on EVE-VR, the question has been, ‘When can I have this?' What started as a passion project by a small, incredibly talented group of CCP developers became one of the most highly anticipated games of the year - before we even announced it. We have big plans for Eve: Valkyrie and I can't wait to share more details later this year."

A first-person space dogfighter sim seems like a perfect match for the emerging virtual reality system. Reminiscent of great games like Wing Commander, the visual scope and continuous sense of motion will likely have heads spinning for all the right reasons.

Eve: Valkyrie is scheduled for release sometime in 2014.

REVIEW. Written by Oliver Thulin

"In the end it's a competent action-focused flight sim that unfortunately is held back by a couple of negatives."
