It has been revealed that F1 Esports Series alumnus Cem Bolukbasi will make history this year by becoming the first driver from his nation (Turkey) and the world of sim-racing to make the leap to race in Formula 2.

Known as the motorsport series that is a stage below the premier Formula 1, Bolukbasi will be competing in the scene as a racer for Charouz Racing System. Previously known as a competitor in the F1 Esports Series, Bolukbasi was part of the esport back in 2017 and 2018, before he made the leap to partially compete in the GT4 European Championship in 2019 - making this a full time occupation in 2020 and 2021.

Speaking about the news, Bolukbasi said, "If I was never in F1 Esports, I would never have had the chance to get into a real car - I would not be where I am now. I think it's also very important to be the first gamer to do this, because it can give people hope. If people see that one person can do it, they will believe they can do it as well... If I can go from F1 Esports to FIA Formula 2, I think anyone can."

As for when we'll get to see Bolukbasi's debut in F2, the season is slated to kick off in Bahrain on March 18.
