Fear the Wolves is a newly-announced Battle Royale game coming from Vostok Games, and in a recent trip to Paris we caught up with studio co-founder Oleg Yavorsky to hear the elevator pitch for the game, as well as the different kind of features that fans can expect in the irradiated wasteland the game presents.

"Well it's a first-person shooter in the Battle Royale genre and it is set in the Chernobyl exclusion zone with some radiation advancing on the players, with anomalies around the map, and some mutants," he explained, adding that it also has "some hardcore kinds of gunplay and a lot of other kinds of cool elements such as dynamic weather, day/night cycle, and a bunch of other features we're preparing."

We also talked a little bit about some of the items you can pick up, which actually give you a tactical advantage in this irradiated zone. "Yes, you're right," Yavorsky said. "So there's a possibility to find a lot of items that you can customise your character with, but also the gunplay that we are trying to achieve is we are creating the hardcore, more realistic kind of gunplay with bullet physics, with modifiable weapons so you can apply different attachments to your guns like scopes, tactical grips, so you can play just tuning your equipment and your weapons."

"And yeah, at the same time we have some other elements like day/night cycle that actually impacts the gameplay, and also some different weather effects that actually the viewers of the match will be able to vote for and choose for the players, so that's gonna be like an 'X Factor', unpredictable kind of effect that will apply [to] the whole map. So there will be a lot of challenges for the players."

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"It could have done with a bit more spit and polish, but Vostok has built a battle royale that dares to be a bit different."
