As of last month we already knew that FIFA 18 would be different on the Nintendo Switch, meaning that those players who own Nintendo's console will get their own version of the game.

When we spoke to creative director Matthew Prior at a FIFA 18 preview event recently, we took the chance to ask about the Switch version of the game, and he told us that it'll have Switch-specific features.

"What I can tell you is that it will be a version of FIFA that utilises the uniqueness of the Switch," he explained. "So the Switch is not your average console, you know. It has unique features, play on the go, multiplayer, etcetera, etcetera, so when we bring FIFA to a new console we try and utilise the difference, so it's not just a carbon copy of what you expect. There will be features that support the hardware features. So it will be a unique version of FIFA."

Prior promised that more would be revealed around E3, and those details have now been revealed, with EA confirming multiple controller and display setups, and split Joy-Con support.

It was also confirmed that we'll get "FIFA Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Switch Kick Off, and Local Seasons", but alas The Journey: Hunter Returns is only heading to PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Still, EA is promising "the most technologically-advanced portable FIFA experience ever," with "new gameplay mechanics [...] built for Switch" when it lands on September 29.

REVIEW. Written by Ricardo C. Esteves

"The free update isn't quite as good as a game created from the ground up especially for the World Cup, but it comes very close."
