The Florida Mayhem Overwatch League team is making a change to its active roster, following a 2021 season so far that sees the team in tenth in the West standings, with a 4-6 record. The team has decided to move Min-seok "OGE" Son to the bench and give Seung-hun "Checkmate" Baek the position of main tank.
"There is way too much talent on our roster to accept poor results," reads the statement from the Mayhem. "We have been floundering after a great run in the May Melee and needed to switch something up. After assessing all the options available to us, we made the decision to move Checkmate to main tank. Checkmate has been grinding tanks on the ladder since the start of the season and we have a lot of confidence in him to learn quickly. We believe this move is the direction we need to take the roster to get back on track."
Speaking on the matter, the Mayhem's VP of esports operations, Albert Yeh commented on the statement, saying, "Just want to be clear, OGE is not the sole reason for our underperformance as a team. He is still practicing with the team and we will be looking at ways to reincorporate him into lineups. We had one piece we could move around and did not see solutions in the player market."
An unusual situation indeed, but we'll have to see how it impacts the Mayhem for the rest of the Summer Showdown and the 2021 OWL season.
