After a couple of weeks of competition, the winner of the 2023 IEM Katowice tournament has been decided. Following a finals weekend, the grand final took place yesterday evening and saw G2 Esports taking on Heroic for both the lion's share of the $1 million prize pool, but also a direct qualification to IEM Cologne 2023 later this year.

After a competitive showing the winner was decided after the fourth map, as G2 Esports managed to overcome Heroic 3-1 in the match overall. This result has seen G2 Esports walking away with $400,000 in prize money, a spot at the upcoming IEM Cologne Major, and has actually made G2 Esports eligible for the Intel Grand Slam title.

This means that G2 Esports joins the likes of Team Vitality, FaZe Clan, Cloud9, and Outsiders, in a race to secure four ESL Pro Tour Masters and events victories. The race will continue for the next nine events, meaning G2 Esports needs to win a third of the upcoming tournaments to take the $1 million prize on offer for achieving the feat. The catch is also that the team will need to do so before Team Vitality, Cloud9, or Outsiders win three events themselves, or before FaZe Clan wins just one of the next three events.
