Here are the Overwatch World Cup's 36 teams

Blizzard has had a slow January when it comes to new information and news about Overwatch 2's esports. We're still waiting to hear about when the Overwatch League will return, and there were a lot of questions surrounding the Overwatch World Cup - although this has all changed now.

Because the Californian developer has announced an array of details relating to the World Cup, including the 36 attending teams, and some titbits about its format.

We're told in a new blog post that the World Cup will consist of three conferences, each of which will feature two separate groups of six teams. These groups have been selected based on player population data. As for how the actual play will work, each country will host three World Cup Trials weekends throughout February, which will help team committee members select the top seven players for their roster.

After this and in June, all 36 teams (including four additional ones coming from a wild card challenge that we're told further details will be shared about at a later date, and China who is getting a direct invite to the next stage due to the Blizzard problems in the country) will be fighting for one of 16 spots in the LAN finals.

As for what the groups look like, these teams will be competing in the online qualifiers for spots in the LAN finals.

Each of the A divisions will feature three LAN spots, whereas the B divisions will have two spots to fight over. This will leave that one extra spot for the directly invited Chinese team.
