The Brazilian team Immortals have defeated Ninjas in Pyjamas at DreamHack Summer 2016. They took down the highly favoured 2-0 series that few could have predicted.

Immortals have struggled recently, failing to qualify for the ESL One Cologne Major and looking shaky in the opening stages of DreamHack Summer. But they looked commanding in the beginning of the series against NiP, who came in hot off the heels of a 2-0 win over Astralis in the semifinals.

The first map was Cache, which is probably Ninjas' favourite map and one where they're among the best teams in the world. Usually, NiP look unbeatable on Cache. But not today. Immortals hit the ground running, taking the first three rounds and ending the first half with a 9-6 lead over the Swedes. They put another five rounds on the board in their Terrorist half before NiP could respond, and closed the game after giving up four rounds to the Ninjas. 16-10 was the final score.

Second map was mirage, where Immortals looked absolutely beastly in the opening half. They won 12 of 15 rounds on their Terrorist side, and took the opening round of the second half as well. But then Ninjas rallied, fiercely fighting for a comeback and bringing the score from 13:3 to 13:11. Immortals finally got a round in, but NiP reduced the gap even further, putting the score at 14:13.

But it was for naught. Immortals recovered from a flailing economy and took home two rounds to close the series, with a final map score of 16:13.
