Capcom's head of R&D Keiji Inafune has spoken out strongly against the current state of the Japanese games industry. Speaking to the New York Times, Inafune stated: "I look around Tokyo Games Show, and everyone's making awful games. Japan is at least five years behind. Capcom is barely keeping up. I want to study how westerners live, and make games that appeal to them."

The statement comes shortly after Capcom purchased western developer Blue Castle Games, currently working on Capcom's Dead Rising 2. Westernising games takes more than "turning eyes blue and changing the hair color," claims Inafune. "The game industry is constantly changing. Everybody's joining the market. You just don't know what's coming next."

The very-much-Western-developed Dead Rising 2 releases September 28th.
