Funcom have been known to be working on an MMORPG based on Lego's line of minifigures for a while now, but the cat is finally out of the bag properly.

HQ

In Lego Minifigures Online you will collect more than hundred characters with varying abilities. You can either collect these in-game or by buying the minifigures in stores. Funcom will continously add more characters from the massive toy selection (over 3600 minifigures created since 1975).

There will be a degree of destruction and construction in-game, but unlike say Minecraft you will only be able to do this in specific places much like in TT Games' Lego titles. The gameworld combines several well known Lego locations - pirates, spaces and Lord of the Rings are among the universes that will collide.

There will also be a PvP component where you will be able to build towers, traps, place mines and place cannons in order to best your opponent.

LEGO Minifigures Online

Norwegian developer Funcom is best known for the MMORPG titles Anarchy Online, Age of Conan: Unchained and The Secret World. Games that have all suffered troubled launches, but that eventually found an audience. Is it fourth time lucky? Lego is certainly a lucrative license, but it wasn't that long ago that the plug was pulled on Lego Universe.

The plan is to launch Lego Minifigures Online during the second half of 2014 on PC, iOS and Android - and it will be interesting to see how the mobile versions will work with the PC game.
