After Hideo Kojima left Konami, the future of the Metal Gear series has been in flux, but now at Gamescom, Konami has revealed the next step for the franchise.
It's called Metal Gear Survive, and it's a cooperative stealth game set after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. After the old Mother Base tumbles towards the ocean floor, surviving soldiers are instead sucked into a black hole and an alternate reality where terrifying zombies prey on the world's new inhabitants.
The game will let several players team up to survive and try to return home, and it's slated for release next year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
"We are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the Metal Gear franchise," said Konami's European boss Tomotada Tashiro. "Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series' famed stealth elements but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multi-player experience."
