Gamereactor Spain had the chance to speak with Gamelab 2015 Honor Award winner Shinji Mikami during last week's event in Barcelona, and the "father of survival horror" had some interesting concepts and ideas to share regarding his trademark genre's status and new possibilities within the field.

Asked about potential new ideas that didn't make it into The Evil Within, the Resident Evil creator talked about introducing some random fear gameplay elements in the future.

"One of the things that I wanted to do with The Evil Within is sort of the randomness of fear that comes while you're playing the game... In cinema you know what's going to happen. Maybe something's gonna happen; it does happen. But with video games I wanted to do something different, with more random enemy encounters or more random... you don't know what's going to come, where and when. And I wanted to do that with The Evil Within, but I haven't achieved the goal that I want to. It's [an idea] in development."

The concept would certainly add more shock value to any future survival horror title. Certainly a similar idea was used successfully in last year's Alien: Isolation.

The full video interview, touching on several new and old concepts, survival horror and otherwise, will be on the site shortly.

"If you can stomach some old school design then you're in for some proper stomach turning events."
