When the next system update hits Xbox One this month, the number of possible party members is getting bumped up from 12 to 16. Though 16 might sound like a lot of people to have in one party chat, Xbox' Director of Programming, Mike Ybarra, has even loftier ambitions.
In fact, the man from Microsoft wants 64-player parties - not because he wants to be in a party like that, but just because it is possible. In an interview with GameInformer he says the following:
"I'd love to get that to 64 because that'll get Battlefield and games like that which do 64 vs. 64...have at it! Now, I don't want to be in a party of 64, but that's a different problem!"
This could sound like a bit of a waste of effort since there aren't that many games which support that many players, but Ybarra is thinking of the future of Microsoft's cross-play functionality with Xbox One and PC. Anyway, would you join a party with 63 other players?
