Today it was confirmed that Todd Alderman, lead designer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, has returned to Infinity Ward and the shoooter series. The designer left the studio alongside several key members, this after co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella were let go by Activision.

After that, Alderman worked at Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall) and Riot Games (League of Legends), all the while reportedly trying to get unpaid bonuses from Activision.

Considering all this, it's a bit surprising to see Alderman return to both Infinity Ward and to Activision. The lead designer himself said he was surprised, in a prepared statement sent to Polygon:

"The chance to come back to Infinity Ward and Call of Duty is something I didn't think would ever happen. It's been five years since I've been here and a lot has changed. There are a lot of new faces and motivated people who want to make something great. It's a really cool game concept that I want to be a part of. I can't wait to see what we do with a three-year dev cycle. I'm excited to be back."

After last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Sledgehammer Games), the studio should now be working on 'Call of Duty 2017', as part of the triple studio three year development cycle Activision announced for the series last year.
