NRG's CEO Andy Miller has confirmed via Twitter that his organisation has acquired Counter Logic Gaming (CLG).

The move will see NRG make its return to the League of Legends Championship Series, (LCS) becoming a team competing in one of League Esports' major regions once again.

In the video announcement, Miller said: "We're super excited to announce that we are back in League of Legends.

"So after a many many year absence, after being relegated, trying to figure it all out, and a bunch of years, we clawed our way back and here we are."

Miller reassured current CLG fans: "We're keeping the League infrastructure intact. The League LCS team, the Academy teams, all the coaches, the analysts, everybody down to Chef Phil."

Speaking about the organisation's identity change, Miller said: "There's definitely changes to the CLG org and we appreciate everyone who, over the years, put their blood, sweat, and tears into the org to get to the point where now they can become a part of NRG.

"Going forward we're gonna continue our playful brand, sort of in my co-founder's image there, Shaquille O'Neal, world's biggest kid, that's the way we look at ourselves.

"But we want to win, we hate losing almost more than we like winning."

The acquisition has meant that Greg Kim, the current head of CLG, will no longer be leading the organisation.

In an announcement via his Twitter, Kim said: "It's a rare privilege to be handed the keys to a storied organization like CLG, and rarer still to be the steward of a fandom as passionate and as loyal as the Faithful.

"I'll be forever grateful to those who trusted me to be a custodian of this incredible team."

About League specifically, he continued: "We rebuilt our League of Legends program and saw our fans come out of hiding as we surged into top four status.

"We hosted activations every day when Worlds was on our doorstep in New York."

Kim spoke about the state he is leaving CLG in, saying: "Our League of Legends program carries on the legacy of everything built over the last decade, and I know this group of coaches and players have what it takes to win the LCS."

CLG's League of Legends teams will be rebranded to NRG pending Riot Games approval.
