Now that we're into the fourth week of the 2022 Overwatch League season, Blizzard has taken a moment to announce a few extra details about the format of the competitive year. Namely, we're told that due to Covid-19 concerns in the East division, the teams in that division will not be able to travel for the Midseason Madness international tournament, meaning Project Aloha will be used once again for the event.

For those unaware, this means the tournament will be played in Hawaii, and will once again use the same format of six days of "blowout competition".

Otherwise, the update noted that going forward we can expect to see patches come in between tournament cycles, with the first to be for the Midseason Madness one. This will introduce the latest build of Overwatch 2, and will see the inclusion of the Mercy "super jump" and the Zenyatta knockback kick melee.

Lastly, the blog shared that each tournament cycle will have its own unique skin that can be acquired for Overwatch League Tokens. The winning team for each cycle will also get a remixed version of that very skin, and likewise we're told to expect extra remix skins that honour former tournament cycle winners.

As for when the Overwatch League kicks off later today, the first match starts at 11:00 BST / 12:00 CEST, and will see the Chengdu Hunters taking on the Philadelphia Fusion.
