Pachter: Next Xbox to launch before PS5

While Sony is still being a bit coy about PlayStation 5, Microsoft revealed at E3 that they are already working on the "next Xbox". No name or details were revealed, but this information was enough for analyst Michael Pachter to make a prediction.

While talking with Gaming Bolt, Pachter stated he believes Microsoft "intends to launch first" next generation, while also referring to the next console "will be backwards compatible with any Xbox One X software". This is something Microsoft has alluded to themselves. Pachter predicts a 2020 launch for the next Xbox, but with a caveat - if Sony also reveals a PS5 launch in 2020, Microsoft could try and go earlier.

Regarding Xbox One X users, that might feel a bit cheated with a new console coming so soon, Pachter agreed it would be hard on those consumers, but argues "they should know 4 years into a cycle that there is another one coming".
