Phoenix Point is due to land on PC (via the Epic Games Store) on December 3 (update: and on Xbox One early next year, sometime later on PS4), but before we get to play next week we have a brand new trailer introducing us to what's known as the Phoenix Project.

This sets the tone of the world that we're going to be exploring in Phoenix Point, and here's a little more courtesy of the official description:

"The world is under siege from a mutant alien menace. Civilization has retreated to scattered havens around the globe. Divided into rival factions, the remainder of humanity scrambles to hold out against an overwhelming threat. The Phoenix Project, dormant for years, springs back to life, uniting the best and brightest from around the world in a single goal: to give mankind a final chance to rise from the ashes."

This has been celebrated as the spiritual successor for the Xcom series, which Snapshot Games' Julian Gollop helped create originally, so anticipation is high from Xcom fans.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"We can forgive a few cut corners and some scaled back elements given budgetary constraints, but it's clear that the game needs a bit more spit and polish if it's going to really sparkle."
