As much as kids and nostalgia fans alike are looking forward to revisiting Spyro with the Reignited Trilogy tomorrow, it turns out you won't be able to unless you have adequate internet and patience to wait for a mandatory update of a hefty size.
This has been discovered by lucky early adopters, who realised that both PS4 and Xbox One discs ask for the download. As reported by GearNuke, you can't play through the three full remastered classics unless you download the update, which takes up to 17.6 GB on PlayStation 4 and up to 42 GB on Xbox One, to the point that the latter's disc just copies 200 MB of software, a tiny amount of data in comparison to what has to be downloaded no matter what.
"If you pause the updates, it is not possible to play through every level in Spyro 2 and 3," confirm some sources.
With similar cases happening more and more as of late, some may wonder what's the real value and use of the physical release, which at the same time adds to the trend that sees sales shifting to digital format.
How are you considering purchasing Spyro?
