The Pokémon Company International has officially announced the dates and locations for the Pokémon World Championships this year, an event that sees Pokémon fans and players come together to compete in video games and card games.

The World Championships will be held between the August 18 and 20 in Anaheim, California, or more specifically, The Anaheim Convention Center. Trainers will be competing across the Pokémon Sun and Moon games and the Pokémon Trading Card Game for a chance to win approximately $500,000 USD worth of prizes and the chance to become the 2017 Pokémon World Champion (or, more appropriately, the 'very best, like no one ever was'.)

The North American International Championships, however, will take place from June 30 to July 2 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, and the inaugural event is open to competitors across the globe. This event will give players a chance to earn valuable Championship Points leading up to the World Championships.

As if all this wasn't enough, Pokkén Tournament fans will also get the chance to compete at the World Championships, as the Last Chance Qualifier tournament will decide who gets a spot in the World Championships the day after, with a prize pool of $20,000.

For more information about both events head over to the Pokémon website. Has Pokémon lost any of its competitive edge since the classic days of wired Game Boys, or is it still as exciting to duel other trainers?

REVIEW. Written by Juan A. Fonseca

"Be it the story, visual style, setting, creatures, combat, or even the fan service, this game delves deeper into the RPG genre and it's better for the shift."
