The good people over at IV Software have decided to release a surprise Christmas update for Prison Architect that will force you to manage the needs of the staff as well as the prisoners.

"This frosty December, we give you guard needs: no longer can you treat your hard working prison officers as robot gaolers. They're going to need their own toilet and canteen and your staff room is about to get a whole lot busier..." said IV Software.

The new optional gameplay mechanic will add a whole bunch of new features to manage, revolving around the guards that manage your prison. It is worth noting though that once you activate the 'staff needs' function on your prison it cannot be turned off. Failure to look after your guards will not result in a riot like your prisoners, but it will have a very bad effect on the institution, causing all sorts of problems.

To access the new update you will need to opt in to the 'beta branch' on Steam, and for full instructions check out the video below. Is the inclusion of staff needs a good feature?

Prison Architect

REVIEW. Written by James Daniels

"Overall Prison Architect is a very good game, and it brings new ideas and a new setting to a tired genre."
