Marcus 'Notch' Persson is best known as the creator of sandbox hit Minecraft, although in recent years he has come under fire for controversial statements on social media, which were enough to get him removed from the splash text in the game earlier this year. Now it turns out that he'll also be absent from the celebrations when the game celebrates its 10-year anniversary, as reported by Variety.
"His comments and opinions do not reflect those of Microsoft or Mojang and are not representative of 'Minecraft," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to Variety, adding that he hasn't been involved with development since he sold the studio in 2014.
A press event is taking place at Mojang in Stockholm on May 17, looking at the game's history and what lies ahead, so for now all we have to do is wait until then to see what's coming.
