Riot Games has been facing all kinds of issues with growing and supporting competitive League of Legends in North America. The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) has always been changed and updated following dwindling viewer numbers, and this also extends to the talent pipeline league of the North American Challengers League (NACL).

As noted in a new blog post, more changes are coming to the latter, as now LCS teams will not be required to field an NACL team. This doesn't mean that the NACL will lose support, as Riot has affirmed that it's taking further steps to improve the grassroots community.

These changes will include a proper promotion/relegation system that affects all teams going forward, better and more stable servers, further broadcast integrations, cross-regional competitions that bring EMEA and APAC together with NA, and more. The LCS import rules are not being tweaked however, meaning the NACL will still be a great place to scout talent for future LCS stars.

This will all come into effect in summer 2023 and beyond.
