Series two of Jessica Jones to be directed entirely by women

Jessica Jones was a hit for Marvel and Netflix when the first season had its premiere on the streaming service, and the second season is now on its way.

One aspect of the show that was appreciated by fans was that it presented some well needed diversity to the Marvel universe, not just in terms of characters but also in terms of tone and story. For the second season this diversity will stretch itself to cover who's behind the camera as well.

It has been decided that all of the thirteen episodes of the season will be directed entirely by women. The first season wasn't foreign to female directing, but nine of the episodes were helmed by men - something that won't be the case this time.

Diversity will be sought after in the writing as well. This was confirmed by the executive producer Melissa Rosenberg (Melissa was the person to propose an all female ensemble of directors to Marvel, and they thought it was a good idea).

During a panel held at the conference Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment (via Variety) she told the audience: "When I interview a writer, I'm less interested in what you've been doing professionally than I am in where you're from, what your parents do, what's your life experience, what are you bringing to the table personally. I don't want a bunch of people who look and sound [like me] and have the experiences I have."

The shooting for season two of Jessica Jones will start later this year and the premiere is expected to happen during 2018. Of course, Krysten Ritter will return as Jessica. Do you like this all-female director choice?
