There were some nice news today as 2K and Firaxis announced a new game bearing Sid Meier's name. Starships is described as turn-based, adventure-driven interstellar strategy game, where players command a fleet of starships. They go on a series of missions to explore the galaxy, and protect planets and civilizations. All this is in an effort to build a peace preserving federation for the whole galaxy.

"When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?" said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games. "My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration."

There will be lots of tactical combat, which will be fought with customisable starships. Each campaign will feature its own galactic strategy map full of different worlds. Tactical combat missions will be generated dynamically, which is said to bring more replay value to the game. Starships will also feature some kind of cross-connectivity with Civilization: Beyond Earth, but how these two interact is still unknown.

The release date is yet unknown, but the game is promised to be out early in 2015. Starships will be released for PC, Mac and iPad. Check out a new trailer and screenshots below.

REVIEW. Written by Aldin Sadikovic

"Under the right circumstances, and the right platform, Starships can be enjoyable. But there's much to be desired from this PC build."
