Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is hitting cinemas on December 20, but on December 17 the next free update will be bringing content from the new film into Star Wars Battlefront II. This includes a brand new jungle planet to co-op coming this month, seeing you play as Resistance or First Order (along with Heroes and Villains), being unlocked alongside the film on December 20.

At the same time the sequel era locations Takodana, Jakku, and Starkiller Base are joining co-op rotation, featuring attack and defend scenarios.

Four extra reinforcements are also coming as well, with the Infiltrator class Sith trooper of the First Order protected by red armour. The First Order Jet Trooper is also good in the air, and there's also a new Gunner and Spy unit for the Resistance, these being two new alien species shown in the new film.

Hero appearances include Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren, all of which are inspired by the new film, and are included for owners of the Celebration Edition. Alternatively, you can also purchase them for Credits or Crystals.

Next month there's even more coming though, as two new capital ships are on the way - the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer and the MC85 of the Resistance. These will be above the ground battles on the new planet and Jakku, also appearing in offline Instant Action too.

BB-8 is also joining the Resistance as a hero character, and there's a dark side equivalent in BB-9E, being a support for the First Order.

We're getting more in February and March, but for now we've got to wait for more information. That's not too hard when there's a trailer below showing off all the new features though, and for more on this content and the Celebration Edition, head this way.

Are you ready for the new film and the in-game content?

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"It never gets boring watching Yoda rip through enemy lines with his lightning-quick lightsaber (as long as he's on your side, of course)."
