Chucklefish's Starbound has been a long time coming. The indie game inspired by Terraria (among others) was released on Steam Early Access back in December 2013, and it seemed to have been struggling during the beta.

The studio announced yesterday that the game is finally leaving Early Access, and soon. The next update will thus be "the big 1.0" and the game's feature list is complete. Unfortunately the exact release day still went unannounced.

"In the past we've referred to this update as 'the story update' and indeed the player will finally be able to experience the complete Starbound story arc. Along the way you'll meet new friends, undertake a series of missions and search for clues across countless planets. The story arc isn't intended to replace the sandbox gameplay, but instead provide it with context whilst leaving the game open and boundless."
