We all know how summer is when it comes to gaming. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and generally speaking, there are less games coming to market. This means that there is usually a noticeable decline in active players pretty much everywhere you can imagine. However, Valve is noticing an unusually steep decline in its active player base on Steam.

This was first noticed by Steam Spy on Twitter, and reported on SteamDB. January 2018 saw a peak of 18.5 million active users, but since then the drop has been very noticeable. As of the time of writing, the number of active users during the last 24 hours has dropped down to around 14 million.

Steam Spy also noted that "the share of people playing is also decreasing - from 38% to 31%", which sounds like it could be as simple as PUBG players migrating to non-Steam games like Fortnite. Either that or the heatwave that many of us are enjoying/enduring is also have a more pronounced impact on the numbers.
