As you probably know, Techland is the studio behind Dead Island, they then did Dead Island: Riptide, but parted ways with the franchise as they began work on Dying Light. That game in turn became very popular and has sold in excess of 5 million copies since its release in January. Publisher Deep Silver assigned German studio Yager with the task of creating Dead Island 2.

That didn't end well and Yager were removed from the project originally planned to launch this spring, and as of now there has been no new developer announced. In an interesting twist the original developer now reveals that they would love to do the sequel, all Deep Silver needs to do to make this happen is call them.

This was revealed in an interview with VideoGamer.com, where producer Tymon Smektala from Techland says:

"I personally would love to go back to Dead Island because I really love that game," he said. "I don't know if there is a developer [attached to Dead Island 2] at all."

And asked if he really meant that and would accept the project if Deep Silver would contact them, he answers:

"I would. As I said, I love Dead Island and I think there is a place for both franchises to strive in the market. As long as someone would be able to find something that would make them different, that would draw a clear line, 'Okay, here's Dead Island, here's Dying Light', and I think that's doable, then why not?"

Whether Deep Silver are interested or not remains to be seen.
