When Irrational Games wrapped up the development of Bioshock Infinite and its Burial at Sea expansion back in 2014, they also announced that the studio was going to refocus their efforts. This meant laying off most of their staff, with only sixteen remaining. Since then, we've only gotten a few teases as to what they're working on, but now it seems that an announcement is closing in.

The studio has decided to change their name to Ghost Story. As they've kept the name Irrational Games for close to three years now, it might be worth explaining why they suddenly decided to change it: "We are a new team, working on a new game and we'd like our studio name to reflect that".

It would seem that they want to continue focusing on what they're known for, as their reasoning for the name is quite simple: "Ghost stories are immersive, exciting, and steeped in community. The name reminds us of our mission."

That means they'll continue to create immersive, story-driven games that will have strong appeal to Bioshock fans. There is, however, some good news for those who felt the gameplay of the popular games were shallow, as they're now aiming to deliver experiences where the gameplay is just as good and challenging as the storytelling.

Unfortunately, the only other detail they want to reveal about the game is that it'll be "a new immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements". Still, the name change seems to indicate that we won't have to wait much longer for further details.

You can learn more about the twelve developers on their official website. Do you feel gameplay was lacking in comparison to story in some of their games?
